München, Germany

A hungry day

by Johannes

I have never been hungrier in my life by the time I got to the Central Station in Munich.

I didn´t eat breakfast on that day, because I had no milk in the fridge. Therefore, I was not able to eat my cereal. Since I was running late for work, I just skipped breakfast and didn´t bother to get something on my way to work. At work, I was so busy that I couldn´t find a time to go out for lunch. I only had couple cups of coffee. My stomach was pretty upset and noisy in the afternoon. I figured that I will just eat a big meal at the Central Station before I get on the train. After I got off from work I had to hurry to get there on time. At a very crowded crosswalk a guy bumped into me pretty bad and we both felt down. He yelled at me to watch out and ran off. I just thought “What an idiot”.

My mind was focused on food, so I just tried to get to the station as quickly as possible. When I got there, I just went to a McDonalds. I was waiting in line and checking the menu when I noticed that my wallet has been missing. I always carry it in my pocket, but I checked my backpack and everything, just to make sure. Then it came to me, the guy I ran into must have stolen it. “Fuck!!!” At that point I didn´t even care about my ID, credit card and all that stuff. I just needed food. I called my friend who was supposed to pick me up at the train station in Stuttgart. I told him the whole story and asked him to get some food ready for me.

I hung up and then a homeless person came to me. As ignorant as I was, I just told him “Leave me alone man, I really don´t have money. “ He said: “Listen dude, I couldn´t overhear your conversation. Here are five Euros. Get yourself something to eat. This money doesn´t belong to me anyway.” He smiled and then he said: “And I tell you what most people say to me when they give me money – Don´t buy alcohol with that!” We both laughed.
